The UTA-ASM Student Chapter had a successful camp this summer and had a lot of fun organizing it! Eighteen

junior high and high school boys and girls attended. Approximately 11 volunteers and two faculty members were

involved. Topics and activities included: Introduction to Materials Science; Tensile Testing; Metallographic Sample

Preparation; Optical and Stereo Microscopy; Scanning Electron Microscopy; X-ray Diffraction; Visit to clean room

at the Centre of Nanotechnology and Nanofabrication for AFM and STEM introduction.

Nanofab visit                                                                 X-Ray Diffraction

Metallography                                                               Tensile Testing

Lunch                                &                            Birthday Celebration

Feedback from the campers was very positive. All the participants were very happy and agreed that they

learnt something new in the field of science and engineering. They almost unanimously agreed tensile testing,

polishing and visit to Clean room at Nanofabrication center were the best part of the camp. The campers

were a smart group of kids and asked some very interesting questions. Feedback from the participants was

very good and almost all of them agreed to recommend this workshop to their friends and teachers.

Each camper was given spiral bound packet that included a camp agenda and descriptions of each camp

activity. At the conclusion of the camp, each camper was given a “Certificate of Completion” and a camp T-shirt.
